Friday, Turner and I went to dinner to celebrate the big news of him using the toilet at daycare. He was pretty good throughout dinner. I made sure to have plenty of toys to use as a distraction if he started getting shifty and impatient. Fortunately for me, he stayed entertained by watching a table of kids that sat directly in front of us. Three boys between the ages of 4 and 8; alone with Grandma. The boys were hiding under the table and kept tuning out her attempt of keeping order. Grandma was losing control of the situation and kept searching for the waitress to get the bill. I felt bad for her, but not so bad that I wanted the waitress to return to her table. After all, her little show was enough to keep my kid in his seat and quiet.
After dinner we hit the local ice cream stand, mowed down a cone and some hand-dipped mint chocolate chip, then went to the playground. A friend of mine came later with her crew and Turner was happy to have another boy to play with. They played until a little after 8 and then we went home. Turner surprised me when we walked through the door and he said, "bath". So, I gave him a bath and he was a happy camper. I gave him some warm milk and put in is Cozy Coupe DVD. After the DVD, I put him to bed and I was able to read a few chapters in my book before I fell into a deep, exhausted slumber.
Saturday was the usual. I made a hot breakfast, Turner played, I cleaned the house, and then we headed to the library. We were able to leave the library without a kicking screaming tantrum this time and I was so grateful. We arrived home, had lunch, and took a nap. Yes, that's right, I took a nap too! Being a single parent is pretty tiresome! Grandma Dixon came over after naptime and we went to the Holmes County Fair. We had dinner there and went to a few barns to look at animals. Turner's favorite were the rabbits and he even petted one. He was obsessed with the tractors of course and we let him sit on a few. After he pretended to drive half a dozen tractors, we went over the the rides. He had a meltdown when I tried to put him on a pony (he rode them last year and did fine), yelled "stop!" when the carousal started ( I held him the rest of the ride), and seemed to enjoy riding a dinosaur ride and a motorcycle ride. After the rides, we bought an elephant ear with a little cinnamon and sugar and drove toward home. On the way home, we pass a school and Turner started crying and pointing when he saw the playground. I thought it would be a good way for him to burn some energy since he had just eaten a pound of donut and sugar so I turned the car around and we went to the playground. After he ran and played on the toys we drove home. I was hoping that he would be tired, but of course he was full of energy when we got there. We went through the routine; bath, milk, Baby Einstein DVD . . . still not tired. I ended up putting him to bed at 9:30 and had to let him cry. My sister gave me the Twilight DVD and I was hoping my mom would hang out and watch it with me, but she was tired and wanted to go home so I called it a night and crashed.
Sunday morning Turner slept until 7:30. Yippee! We pretty much lounged around the house after breakfast and Tanner said he would be home by 11:30. We were pleasantly surprised when the guys arrived home early! Turner and I went out as everyone unloaded the 4-wheelers and unpacked the trucks and trailers. When Tanner went to reach for him; he didn't want to go to him. Turner was a little stand-offish with Tanner yesterday. I'm sure they will re-connect today when Tanner picks him up from daycare and they'll be best buddies again by the time I get home.
We hope all of you had a good weekend!
you are the funnest mom ever. sounds like a very busy weekend!
ReplyDeleteyou throw Twilight in there just to get me all excited, don't ya?
