Turner's Grill
The weather has been pretty humid and hot in Ohio since Saturday. The perfect time for Turner's last few teeth to come in. The pain has been waking him up in the middle of the night; in turn, waking us up in the middle of the night. I blindly shuffle into the room, quickly find focus, measure out the correct dosage of Children's Motrin, and comfort and console him back to sleep. This process usually takes 30 minutes to an hour. He sometimes chooses to fight going back to bed; other times seems exhausted and grumpy and cries himself back to sleep within a decent amount of time. I stand by his crib or sit in a chair in the nursery until he is deep in baby slumber and then go back to our bedroom and crash. A few consecutive nights of this has taken me back to the days of his infancy. The nights when he would cry from his crib every couple of hours to be changed or fed. I often think, how did I do it? It's amazing how our bodies and instincts know how to respond and care for a baby. It's amazing how quickly we forget.
